LADY BAY TENNIS AND SPORTS CLUB
2 Saltford Close
Tel 07971 132810
The summer season began on 1st April and there are many activities planned for the new season.
I enclose a membership form listing the various categories and fees. Please complete as appropriate and send with your payment to Ann Pullan, making cheques payable to the Lady Bay Tennis and Sports Club. The Committee very much appreciate early settlement of fees. It was voted at the 2018 AGM not to increase the subscriptions.
Visitors’ fees will remain at £3.00. Visitors may only play a maximum of three times and must be accompanied by a full member of the club. Please note all visitors must sign the visitors’ books kept in the clubhouse, and give or send the monies to a Committee Member. This fee will be deducted from membership fees should they subsequently join the club.
Could members please notify myself or Ann Pullan of any change in address or phone number – the phone list is updated regularly and a copy kept in the clubhouse It is also helpful to keep us informed of your current e-mail address as this can be very useful for sending information out, and also saves cost.
There will be an evening of organised social tennis, followed by pizza and wine, on Wednesday 18th April at 6.15 p.m. These popular social evenings will continue every other Wednesday (see dates on fixtures calendar) when four courts will be available. All members of all standards are welcome.
In addition to the “just turn up and play” Tuesday Ladies afternoons, Monday Ladies evenings, alternate Wednesday pizza tournament evenings, and Thursday Mens evenings, there are nowadays quite a few people who play at various times of the week and weekend in organised fours. If you are not in an organised four, but would like to play on a regular basis, there is now a list up in the clubhouse. Please add your name and contact details, with details of the days and times you are available. If, when you add your name to the list, you see there are other people on there who are available at the same time as you, then please contact them.
If you would like to play on a regular basis, but don’t want to commit to a weekly four, then please also add your name to the list with details of when you are available. That way, when somebody in an organised four is away, injured or has other commitments, they can look and see who may be able to play for them.
We have a range of men’s, ladies’ and mixed teams playing in the Notts LTA Leagues and catering for a range of standards. New team members are always welcome so if you would like to play then just contact a member of the committee or let someone know when playing social tennis.
We have 1 mens and 1 ladies team in the National divisions of Team Tennis who will be playing top club teams from around the country and also a mens team in the Team Tennis county league. We have many up and coming young players who, along with adult members, take part in these matches and the standard of tennis is high, with many clubs fielding ATP tour players. Spectators are welcome – see notice board for details – come along and support your club teams. We also have Team Tennis junior teams in various age groups.
Look out for the various tournaments organised during the season. These include the Sue Waterland ladies (club members only) doubles tournament on Monday 18th June at 6.15pm. This is a draw for partners event in a ‘round robin’ format so plenty of games for all. There is also be an Open Ladies doubles tournament on Tuesday 17th July – please see the notice board for entry forms nearer the time.
As you will know if you are a returning club member, Pete Godber and Carol James have done an amazing job and the coaching programme goes from strength to strength with coaching available from age 4 to over 80.
For more details, contact Peter Godber on 07944 528797 or Carol James on 07712 459348.
Upkeep of facilities
In order to keep subscriptions down while maintaining the quality of our facilities, we rely on volunteers to keep the place neat and tidy. If you would be willing to join the clubhouse cleaning rota or do a little gardening or odd jobs then please let a committee member know.
Certain footwear does mark the court and only ones with non-marking soles should be worn.
Would all members make sure that the lights are always switched off in the toilets as if not the fan continues for a long time. The price of electricity is now very high and we need to keep our costs as low as possible. There is now a heater in the clubhouse, please could you ensure this is switched off when not in use, and that when switched on the doors and windows of the clubhouse are closed.
This year we are hoping to extend our facilities. We are close to signing a lease with Rutland Sports and Social Club for the use of the bowling green and portacabins. They are keen to continue sporting activities on this site following the closure of the bowls club. What we are able to do will depend on how much money we can raise. We currently have two large funding applications being considered which would enable us to add an extra tennis court plus a padel tennis court to extend what we offer. We will also use the space for a variety of other sports such as table tennis, volleyball etc. Any suggestions of suitable, low cost ways of using the space will be most welcome. We will also be asking members to help with a fundraising push so that we can make the most of this exciting new development.
For those of you who use Facebook, why not look up the Lady Bay Tennis and Sports Club group, all are welcome to join it. There is also a club website which is updated regularly.
To ensure that the club provides what its members want, we need to get your input. We will be putting a suggestions box in the clubhouse so please drop your ideas in there or pass them on to a committee member.
We look forward to seeing you all on the courts in 2018
